Also near the loading space there is mod.98 our something like that. Is mine a 98k our a m48. I really hope its the real deal. Also how do I find out if its 8 mm out 7 mm. Thanks for everyones help.

However, the Preduzece 44 means it was reworked by the Yugoslavians after the war. It's been scrubbed of most German markings and the Yugo crest added to the top of the receiver. Yes, it is still a K98, just one without most of the original markings. Also, it should be in 8mm so long as it retains it's original barrel. Take a look at the front of the receiver where the barrel meets it. Right on the edge of the barrel where it meets the receiver it should have a stamp on there. It should be something like 7,91 or 7,92 or similar. That will tell you that it is in 8mm (7.92 x 57mm to be exact)

Posts: 398 (08/04/08 06:04 PM) active member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	A German made K98k that has been reworked by the Yugos in known as a model 98-48 (Official Yugo military designation) meaning a K98k that starting in the 1948 where refurbished by the Yugos. They usually did a good job and often it will not have the original German barrel but a new replacement Yugo made 8MM barrel. With a new barrel it will likely mean it is a very good shooter. While they are usually a better rifle than a Russian Capture K98k as it is possible (though impossible to really know) they kept the original parts together. My 98-48s were much smoother operating guns than any RC but the lack of German markings ruined their restorability and I rebarrled them into 308 making excellent post war type K98k snipers. You have a great rifle with some interesting history if you can figure out where it was made in the third reich. My first 98k is a Yugo Capture and Aresenal reworked rifle that I've had since the early 60's. Its still a great shooter and has a place in any 98k collection. I was able to find some untouched German waffenamts on parts of the rifle that would've been hard or impossible for the Yugos to buff out. Take the barrel and receiver out of the stock and check it thoroughly below where the stock line would be. I found some WaA280 inspection stamps below the rear site and near the barrel lot number stamp on the barrel-if done correctly these barrel lot numbers have a two digit year with the makers designation and the multi-digit lot number, this marking will have these three bits of info but no way to predict in what order you'll find them. Just remember that they reassembled the rifles after all the parts were inspected, buffed, repaired if necessary, and then reassembled. My Yugo Capture 98k was reassembled with parts from a number of rifles, or from spare parts from unserviceable rifles. After the rifle was reassembled they matched the stock and bolt and receiver with a newly assigned serial #. The only parts that are original to the german 98k will most likely be the receiver and barrel assembly, the front sight and most likely the rear sight base and band. If you do find some inspection stamps on the barrel or bottom of the receiver then there are plenty of sites and sources that will help you interpret them and you might find enough info to at least make an informed guess concerning when and where the rifle was made. Good Luck, now the fun begins.
