So what milsurps are on "ready alert" or "in a holster ON you"?
GREG
Right now I've only one, a Walther P1 for the house.

Interesting question when phrased as milsurps. I keep a Smith wheel gun in .357 and a Remington 870 with buckshot, so I guess I don't keep a milsurp for
"home defense".

Ballester Molina in my nightstand.
I live alone, so penetration through walls is not necessarily a bad thing. |

My Remington 870 is a 1950's era ex-police issue, so it's likely "C&R", but maybe not "milsurp". I mounted a 8-round
mag-extension on it, and it's filled with #4 buckshot shells.

My upstairs guns are less than 25 years old, but in the basement I keep a Sistema loaded with hardball in a cabinet.

Home defense and CC units are modern. Smith .357 and KT .380 respectively.
That said I think a Carbine would make an excellent home defense unit. Light, correct amount of firepower, high capacity, accurate in it's intended role, reliable, and small. |

My primary carry is an M&P 40c but often I'll stick a FEG PA-63 in my pocket for short trips out of the house. I also have a CZ 82 secured in my trucks
tool box. Years ago I had a flat in a sketchy neighborhood and I wasn't carrying and I don't want to be caught in that situation again.

At times in the past I carried a Bulgarian Makarov, but that has since been displaced by the KelTec.

Like most everyone else here I dont use my milsurps for home defense or carry. Im sure my Type 94 Nambu would work as a carry weapon, but 8mm Nambu ammunition
is impossible to find and I dont have the tools (or patience) to handload.
I dont have my CC permit yet, but once I get it I plan on carrying my S&W Model 66, either with .357s or 38 Specials. For home defense I keep a Remington 870 Marine Magnum (18-inch barrel and mag extension for a total of 6+1) loaded with 2-3/4" shells of 7-1/2 shot birdshot. I understand buckshot is a better option, but as I am primarily a target/clay shooter (I dont hunt) I have no need for anything more than something to turn clays into powder. Birdshot suffices and is much cheaper. |

Regarding birdshot in a home defense situation, this is worth reading:

No milsurps: a Glock 36 in the bedroom; a Colt Mustang in 380 for light carry; a S&W Bodyguard (used to be a Glock 19) in the end table in the living
room, and a Ruger Security 6 in 357 (possibly to be replaced by a Glock 19) in the gun room.

In my closet I have a 1920 Remington Model 11 Riot shotgun stoked with 00 buck with a clear chamber. On my night stand I have a SIG Sauer P229 .40 with an
extra mag. I figure if someone broke in the pistol will get me across the room to the shotgun. I also live alone so penetration through walls isn't a
factor. I use 00 buck, #4 buck will work too, because bird shot will not give the required penetration to stop a threat. I'm a water fowl and upland
hunter, but bird shot is for birds and buck shot is for large game/defense.

Looks like the Remington 870 is a popular shotgun for in the home. Mine was an old cop gun. I think it would be nice to put an extension on it, any ideas of
where to get one or at least the manufacturer? I originally bought the gun because it was cheap and handy in the ranch pickup. I did change the stock to a more
durable synthetic type.

Ive been thinking of using my PLR 16 with 30 round AR magazines for home defense, but I'm concerned with severe overpenetration, and deafness.

Modern firearms for me...Remington 870 and Kahr PM9.
For an "Outside The Home "Poo-Poo Hits The Fan" scenario, it's the PSL/Romak 3. |

Are not 00 buckshot too much for indoor use. What about using old fashioned number 4's.
